The Farm
Where passion, dedication, commitment and beauty meet
Farm History
Vibrant Valley was started in 2013 by Kara Gilbert and Elaine Walker- two college best friends whose lives after a decade were parallel in travel via WWOOF (Willing Workers on Organic Farms), garden based education and small farming. When the opportunity arose to work land and start a small farm business, Elaine moved from San Francisco to Portland Oregon and Vibrant Valley Farm was born. VVF started as an acre farm in wine country outside of Carlton and grew exponentially to 2.5 acres at another location in the Willamette Valley closer to the coastal range and by year three land was leased on Sauvie Island and the farm has been on Reeder Rd. since.
Vegetables and Flowers were the foundation of VVF from its inception. The space and land use has shifted from 3 to 8 acres at any given season and since 2023 the farm has pared down quite a bit, focusing on flowers, garlic and natural dyes.
Growing Indigo
The deeper we dive into growing and producing pigment, the more we are faced with and inspired to be advocates for slow textiles and fashion design.
We are committed farmers that work effortlessly to care for the earth in all of our farming practices and as we learn more about the textile industry in more depth it is imperative that we incorporate the same theories and practices into the indigo portion of our business model and land stewardship.
